About Sugarloaf Mountain
Sugarloaf Mountain is Maine's second highest peak and home to the famous Sugarloaf ski resort. At 4,238 feet, it offers panoramic views of the western Maine mountains. The Appalachian Trail passes near the summit, and the mountain is a popular destination for both hikers and skiers.
History
Sugarloaf has been a landmark in western Maine for centuries. Ski development began in the 1950s, making it one of the premier ski destinations in New England. The mountain's name comes from its shape, which early settlers thought resembled the conical sugar loaves of the era.
