South Kinsman Mountain stands at 4,358 feet and features an open summit with excellent views. The mountain is part of the Kinsman Ridge Trail and is often climbed in conjunction with North Kinsman. Kinsman Pond, located between the two summits, provides a scenic camping spot and is home to Kinsman Pond Shelter.
History
The Kinsman peaks were named after Nathan Kinsman, an early settler in the area. The mountains have been popular hiking destinations since the late 1800s. Kinsman Pond Shelter, maintained by the AMC, has provided overnight accommodations for hikers since the 1930s.
