Mount Pierce
#27About Mount Pierce
Mount Pierce reaches 4,310 feet and offers excellent views from its summit and nearby ledges. The mountain is the first Presidential peak encountered when hiking north on the Crawford Path from Crawford Notch. The summit provides spectacular views of the Southern Presidentials and the Dry River Wilderness.
History
Originally called Mount Clinton, the peak was renamed Mount Pierce in 2003 after President Franklin Pierce, New Hampshire's only president. The mountain has been climbed since the early days of White Mountain hiking in the 1800s. The Crawford Path, which crosses the summit, is one of the oldest continuously maintained hiking trails in America, dating to 1819.
