Kaaterskill High Peak was once thought to be the highest mountain in the Catskills. It features spectacular views from Hurricane Ledge just south of the summit, and several plane crash sites can be found on its slopes.
History
Kaaterskill High Peak was incorrectly believed to be the highest mountain in the Catskills in the 19th century. Its name comes from 'Kaaterskill,' a Dutch term meaning 'Wildcat Creek.' The mountain features in many famous Hudson River School paintings.
