Sawteeth and Colvin 12/6/25
Sawteeth
What a day! We started at the AMR parking lot, just past 7am. Lake road was an easy hike to the initial fork towards Sawteeth taking the Weld trail. There was one person in front who paved the way, there was minimal breaking required. Once at the top of Sawteeth we took the South Sawteeth trail towards Shanty's brook and Wardens Camp. This was super deep unbroken trail. This took some time but once we got to Shanty brook the brook was not completely frozen over but the ice was a few inches thick where it was. We were able to cross safely and make way towards Carry's Trail. We then started the Elevator Shaft towards the Colvin Blake split off. Everything was still unbroken and deep. This took quite a lot of time to break out the steep trail and get to the saddle. Once at the Saddle my hiking partner for the day had developed some serious issues with their foot, so instead of proceeding we took the left towards Colvin, and skipped Blake.
Colvin was beautiful and had deep snow everywhere. Lots of ice on the broken trail on the steeps ups and downs. The ladders on Colvin were in good shape.
